Your task is to work with your group to build an
authentic model of a Lenape Village. To accomplish your task, you
will be provided with articles to
read, books to peruse,
and web references to investigate.
Both you and your group will benefit from your research. The greater
your effort, the more authentic your village is likely to be.
Like you, each member of your team will become an expert in an area of
Lenape culture. Each expert will investigate his or her topic and
present findings to the group. The group will listen and use
their acquired knowledge in completing the building project.
?
The
Basic Question ?
The
main question you must answer is:
What information is critical to successful design
and construction of an authentic Lenape village?
In this web quest, you
will use the power of teamwork, the abundant resources on the Internet,
and the print resources in the library to learn about the Lenape
Indians. You will be asked to think about theimportance
and impact of various
aspects of Lenape culture, environment, and resources.
Submit a
prioritized list of the areas you are most interested in. Submit a signed
contract.
Researchinformation
related to the area of
expertise you are assigned.
Keep your goal in mind as you conduct your research. Make
notes relevant to your role (area of expertise) and the goal.
Share
your findings with your assigned group
(these
groups will be created by your teacher).
Discuss
and come to a group consensus about
the
important components of
your Lenape village.
Create a two dimensional floor plan of the village.
(This site
shows some house floor plans.)
Decide upon the materials you will use to build
your village. Each group member must contribute materials toward
the building of the village. These must be brought to school on
time and kept in a cardboard box labeled with the group member's
names. Here is a list
of suggestions. Begin gathering; bring items to class
beginning Friday, January 29.
The group will share responsibility for building;
group communication and discussion during this process will be
evaluated.
The group will make an oral presentation to the
class; each team member must prepare and present a portion of this.
All building of every portion of
the village will be completed in school.
Group presentations must
include:
The components
of the village.
The research that generated the rationale for each component.
A labeled floor plan of the village.
An explanation of the challenges your group faced.
An explanation of the way you might change things
the next time you work on a project like this.
Before accessing
Internet references in the computer lab, have students brainstorm
perspectives they could explore and
discover. Use the inquiry method to arrive at roles experts need to
fulfill.
Give a brief general
description of the roles students will take, and have students write
down which role they are interested in.
Use the students'
lists to place students in groups, try to accommodate student requests.
Students should
read material in their texts and peruse books available in the library
in addition to Internet research.
