The Skeletal System

Objectives of this unit
1.
Students will be able to explain the function of the human skeletal system.
2.
Students will be able to identify, define, and apply prefixes and suffixes key to understanding terms of location.
3.
Students will be able to name, and appropriately locate bones of the human skeleton and their articulations.
4.
Students will be able to identify, and demonstrate the physiology of the joints of the human body.
5.
Students will be able to identify the features on bone that indicate interactions with other body systems.
6.
Students will be able to compare mammalian skeletons and provide the rationale for their similarities and differences.
7.
Students will identify, explain, and demonstrate the movement of bones at joints using a model of the human skeleton.
8.
Students will identify injuries to the skeleton, and postulate the causes of these.
9.
Students will study the impact of nutrition on developing bones, and the adult skeleton.
10.
Students will complete an independent study project applying their knowledge to an area of personal interest.
